Easter egg in Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04?

June 16th, 2008 · 6 Comments · Technology, Ubuntu, linux

I was fooling around trying to make a hot key for my tomboy notes, when i discovered that if you press the <start> button and “n” the window you have open goes black like this

Did not find this in a quick Google search :-)

Inverted ubuntu

I dont know if this really qualifies as an easter egg, but hey, give me marks for trying.

and if any Ubuntu geek reads this, could you suggest a minimalistic to do manager that can be launched with a hot key?

Ciao

I suppose it is a shortcut for a Compiz effect, not 100% sure anyway.

    Ciao :)

Paso - I think you are right. Still a cool tip, though.

It is a shortcut for the compiz “negative” accessibility function. Try windows + m to toggle this mode on the entire screen. Useful if your eyes are tired, sometimes (though I just use a dark theme called Darkilouche).

Install compiz-config-settings to have GUI access to all of these features. :-)

It’s an accessibility feature for partially-sighted people. By inverting the colors, it’s easier for people who have to look closely at the screen to see the letters (white against black, for example, can be easier to make out than black against white).

Mac OS X offers a similar tool. And, like somebody points out, it’s also useful if your eyes get tired, although I wish somebody would create a mode that inverted the screen but left pictures/videos non-inverted…

Well there is a way to invert firefox but leave the pictures and video uninverted. Its an add-on called stylish.
