Switchfoot has released a great song rebuild for free in aid of Habitat for humanity.
The song is written in the aftermath of the san diego fires.
Watching the world with my highway eyes
watching the world from the windows that I’ve known
these mobile homes
Loneliness was a friend of mine
But with you that’s through and I feel home
away from home
away from home
away from home
oh we’re the regeneration
oh with time to kill
oh we’re the regeneration
oh rebuild, rebuild
you lit a fire in the pouring rain
but there’s so many noisy voices
oh! I get so cold.
the city lights and the midnight train
I hate to say it but I get caught letting go
of the things I know
do not conform to this
do not conform
oh we’re the regeneration
oh with time to kill
oh we’re the regeneration
oh rebuild, rebuild
every life comes with a broken heart
dying here to be made whole
we are the lost souls with a second start
following the builder home
there’s a temple I’ve found in the strangest part
where the stones are built of souls
where the builder himself has promised, “love,
I’m never going to let you go. Go!”
oh we’re the regeneration
oh with time to kill
oh we’re the regeneration
oh rebuild, rebuild
I urge all readers to chip in money and time for this worthy cause.
ciao

Being a San Diego native, with family in surrounding areas I spent a week on the edge of my seat with my thoughts lifted in prayer. The town I grew up in, rode a tricycle through, was evacuated. Safety and security are needed throughout the world. But for many this is a simple feeling rather than a way of life. Security comes from a hug, a full life filled with love, a smile, laughter with friends…safety on the other hand is how we behave toward our friends…nature, the earth, its inhabitants. Habitat for Humanity is an awesome venture for those who need shelter…but what about those who need the safe arms of love?
In 1988 I did a finger painting that came from out of nowhere. After looking at it for a few days I titled it “San Diego” on fire. The structure of buildings and dark smoke permeating the reds and golds…the feeling, or essence of what I felt while painting…is now long gone. I tore this paintng up in a rage many years ago. All I have is a poor photo with this painting in the background. Should I recreate this?
