I do not have the gift of tongues
I speak English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, some Bengali and some Telugu, but not Geekese. I will not be able to install the damn thing if it’s not in easily understandable language. Shame on you, the evil autocrat Microsoft is more user friendly than you.
Lean is in,
Bundle the Essential software. No, no one has 500 essential software
Upgrades are bad
If a software has been out for less than six months and needs one GB of updates there is some thing very wrong
Take away choice,
I assure you if I like a software i will download it, you aren’t doing me a favor by packaging 15 alternatives to every software.
Gimme a Good reason
Find some big advantages of shifting to Ubuntu, for normal, common people, other than security.
Everyone does not have broadband.
Be friendly to those with none or limited connectivity, it took me forever to find the proper multimedia codec for playing MP3’s (a downloadable version )
I refuse to learn command line code magic
If it needs learning code it’s not challenge to windows.
Stop being the whiny other woman
People are used to double click, blue backgrounds, limited choice, and click-to-modify OS. Get used to it, you don’t try to change the world by making things more difficult.
Listen, this is what normal people [read: HUMANS] want, (programmers aren’t normal they are freaks) . Either change your name or change the software.
Ciao

PS: If I cant count to eight I cant lean sudo gedit

Getting another distro will solve these three.
But Ubuntu is the most user friendly among the lot. If you think Ubuntu is hard, others are going to be even more harder.
Anyway, you tried. Come back when you get a couple of virus in you windows system.

@tisha, linux is in, though it will soon be out if they stubbornly hold on to the geek uppercrust apartheid.

try “Automatix” for the codecs and other multimedia stuff- it’s easy to install without having to use a command line.
and if you like Knoppix, there is an option to install.
try being a little more open minded- if the software doesn’t work for you, then don’t use it. constructive criticism is always good, but your post comes off as whining.
A command line isn’t something scary, and a lot of help is out there on google and irc.
Ubuntu is definately the friendliest of the Linux distros, but there has to be give and take on both ends. The developers are working hard to make it user friendly, and a big part of that is the users learning more about Ubuntu.
