Is Work Worship? On Glorifying God Through Studies and Other Efforts

March 13th, 2007 · 11 Comments · Christianity, My Faith, Philosophy, Spiritual Musings, Words Of Wisdom

Sometime ago one of my friends Nishanth asked me to write about my view on how one glorifies god through studying. This doodle came to me the other day while meditating on a bible passage that deals with glorifying god.
the path to succes

I must say that this is a crude sketch and I am not aiming to be very accurate, just to get thinking going. Pardon me the atrocious spelling.

    AP,

Thanks for taking in the trouble to put this in. The flow chart depicting the process in the order in which you have arranged it is excellent.

As you would be knowing, I agree with the second flow chart, the one you have written in black ink. We do our job faithfully, and its God’s pleasure to grant or withhold success from us. Amen!

    For…
“17 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
    though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,

18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.”

    Habakkuk 3: 16 - 18.

Never was much of a hard worker..but there certainly is nothing to bless without at least an iota of work put in. We probably wont see the hand of God, if anything was achieved with hardly an effort;thus, no praise to Him.. I guess I’d need to palpate a little before I praise God..but then, thats just me…could we combine the two flowcharts?neither is complete, i should guess they make a good whole. That all boils down to hard work anyways. Huh, why cant I be a lazybum and have everything my way?not fair.

    hey bets, welcome.
good point you make, hard work is effort, so is growing in your faith, i wonder which is more tough.
who would you combine hte two charts?

Although I am no longer a believer the second scheme seems accurate to me because nothing is done by “works” but “submission” to God.

I think both the figures hold true…In the the sense there r people who work hard, excel and go to temples and distribute “prashad”. Their success is “God glorified” for them.
BUT for those who Believe in God… it goes like “commit ur ways to the Lord and He shall bring it to pass ” and after u actually (if u really do) commit, believe and wait, then be it success or failure it remains secondory…

    Hmmm…
Very imp 2 understand the diff b/w the 2 charts…
I believe dat if v r in His perfect plan an will - He will never ‘withold’ success 4m us….
He has promised us dat wherever v go, whatever our hands touch, He will win d victory an giv us success….
    For his glory…

Any work entrusted to us IS by God…
So we hav 2 work towards performin it 2 d best of our ability…
