Banners sell. And they sell all kinds of things. Else those who coin slogans would have been on the streets by now. Consider all those Hoardings for which companies pay through their nose just to display one sentence like, “KTPY makes me the real he-man”.

Somehow the human psyche has something in it that allows rational thinking and irrational swallowing in the same person, simultaneously. It has its good aspects like when one is about to enjoy a subjective experience of food, joke, music, fiction, and also bad such as trying to use logic alone to understand and appreciate a subtle joke.

There is nothing wrong with a healthy mix of both. In fact everything would be wrong if there were no healthy mix, or if only one of them were present in us. Life would either have been all ecstasy (read: fool’s paradise) or all a periodic table.

While a (healthy) mix of objectivity and subjectivity is welcome and even essential, some otherwise balanced people show a temporary disorientation when one of these takes precedence over the other. And horror of horrors when subjectivity rushes to substitute for an objective analysis and vice versa. It is precisely this behavior which helps the advertisers to have their cake and eat it too. People simply swallow their bait hook, line, and sinker.

‘Christians Are hypocrites’ is a statement that falls into that category. There are a million feeble, rebellious, fence-sitting souls ready to proclaim amen to that slogan. But wait. Are Christians the only hypocrites in the world? Is every non Christian a straight person? Show me one religious, political, or social group where there are no hypocrites.

I mean if you are walking unprotected with a hundred others in rain, then what is the meaning of shouting to the guy in front of you saying, “Hey, you are wet. Why can’t you take care”.

And please remember, one shouts only to the guys ahead of him …..
