Cheap Grace

Mike Hess writes on one of the commonest error in evangelizing practised in the fundamental churches. Link

The article took my attention since I have been having many a discussion on these issues on the net, esp. with my friend Nishanth, his questions and arguments have forced me to rethink many of the things that I have seen form childhood but never evaluated in the light of the scripture.

Also I have been reading The Cost Of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer in which he talks of the concept of cheap grace;

Cheap grace means the justification of sin without the justification of the sinner. Grace alone does everything they say, and so everything can remain as it was before. “All for sin could not atone.” Well, then, let the Christian live like the rest of the world, let him model himself on the world’s standards in every sphere of life, and not presumptuously aspire to live a different life under grace from his old life under sin. That was the heresy of the enthusiasts, the Anabaptists and their kind”

I am not a proponent of Lordship salvation, neither is, I believe Bonhoeffer, nor do I agree in everything with him but this is something that the evangelical christian of today must contend with.
